Driving Lessons and COVID-19

Posted in: Progress News

Hello, from everyone here at Progress; we would like to wish everyone in the communities across North Wales that we serve, all the best in staying safe, and protecting themselves and their loved ones during the outbreak of COVID-19.

The UK has gone into lockdown over the COVID–19 virus, and sadly whether we like it or not driving lessons are not considered an essential service and we have for now stopped when lockdown started. It is, of course, important that we protect our driving instructors and you as our students. Unfortunately, there is no way we can safely teach people to drive complying with the restrictions on distance between two people nor would we be allowed to spend time out on the roads for what would essentially be considered a non-essential trip.

We appreciate this is frustrating, and that many of you consider driving to be an important function that will enhance your life. However, we must act responsibly so, for now, there will be no more driving lessons taking place as of when the lockdown started towards the end of last month. Thankfully, there are still things you can do to help prepare for once this is over and you’re back on the road.

Many have yet to pass your theory test and while you still cannot access test centres for this, you can certainly spend the time practising and learning to ensure that your first or next attempt will be the passing attempt and you will be able to move onto your practical test. You can practice your theory test completely free of charge with Progress, by going here.

One of the trickiest things is hazard perception, and you can use the Progress Hazard Perception mobile app to ensure that you are practising and getting confident while you are sitting at home. You can practice your Hazard Perception using official DVSA-approved video clips, in a similar way to the official test.
